The purpose of the seminar – the creation of development policies in Northern Finland during the economic crisis period. Seminar organized by the «Pohjois-Pohjanmaan Yrittäjät».

During the presentations, all speakers noted the critical role of Russia in the development of business in Northern Finland. At the same time there were some difficulties in cross-border cooperation with Russia, which is absent in collaboration with Sweden and Norway.First of all, lack of understanding of the authorities of Murmansk region strategic situation and role of Murmansk in the global economy over the next decade. Also, the complexity of a language problem, because only a few Russian leaders speak English.

In addition, many Finnish entrepreneurs noted that from their point of view a typical Finnish companies are too small to work in Russia. «It is necessary first to become huge like Nokia, to be interesting to the Russian market» – Similar comments were heard repeatedly during the seminar.

However, at a seminar attended by entrepreneurs who believed that to begin to cooperate with Russia can and should be right now. It is a vivid example of this viewpoint was the statement of Ari Hiltula, director of the company «Nordic European Solutions Oy»: «You do not need to wait until your company grow, to begin work in Russia. We need to begin work in Russia, to become so large as Nokia».
